零重力は、生きていくうえでの障害や限界に向き合う人間を象徴し、一瞬の自由や心の平安を表現する、合成を用いないセルフポートレート浮遊写真です。

人生には、重力のように避けて通ることのできない「束縛」や「限界」が存在します。社会的な制約、心的・身体的な限界、努力しても報われない現実、人間関係の葛藤、そして予期せぬ災害や不条理な出来事。私たちは様々な条件の中で生きています。

私自身もまた、大切な人を癌で失うという大きな悲しみを経験しました。人生には、どれほど願っても変えることのできない現実があります。

それでも人は、そのような制限の中で幸福を見つけ、満足感を育てながら生きていかなければなりません。自分の置かれた状況の中で最善を尽くし、わずかでも自らの限界を広げていくこと。それは誰もが試される人生の課題です。

重力から解き放たれたような “浮遊人”、“魔女”、“妖精”の姿を表現するために、私は合成技術や生成AIによって浮遊を作り出すのではなく、実際に自らジャンプし、その一瞬を撮影しています。空中で重力を失ったかのように見える身体の姿勢や表情を、自らの身体を使って探り、何度も跳びながら、その一瞬を一枚の写真としてつくり上げていきます。

それは単に「浮いているように見せる」ためではなく、重力に抗い、自らの力で一瞬だけ身体を空中へ持ち上げる行為そのものを、人生の中でさまざまな試練や限界に向き合いながら、それでも前へ進もうとする人間の姿と重ね合わせています。

浮遊している人物は、現実から逃避しているのではなく、重力に象徴される困難や制約の中で、自らの力によって一瞬だけ自由になったかのような姿をつくり出しているのです。

Artist Statement

Zero Gravity is a series of non-composited levitation self-portraits that symbolize human beings confronting the obstacles and limitations of life, expressing fleeting moments of freedom and inner peace.

In life, there exist “constraints” and “limits” that cannot be avoided—much like gravity itself. Social restrictions, mental or physical limitations, the reality of efforts that go unrewarded, conflicts in human relationships, and unexpected disasters or irrational misfortunes. We live within a wide range of conditions and circumstances.

I, too, have experienced profound loss, having lost someone dear to me to cancer. There are realities in life that cannot be changed, no matter how deeply we wish otherwise.

Even so, we must find happiness and cultivate a sense of fulfillment within such limitations. Doing our best within the circumstances we are given, and striving, however slightly, to expand the boundaries of our own limitations. This is a challenge that every person must face in life.

To express the figures of “levitating people,” “witches,” and “fairies” as though they have been released from gravity, I do not create the illusion of levitation through compositing or generative AI. Instead, I physically jump and capture that fleeting moment. Using my own body, I explore postures and expressions that appear to exist without gravity, repeatedly jumping to create that moment as a single photograph.

This is not simply about making the figures appear to float. The act of resisting gravity and lifting my body into the air for a fleeting moment is itself connected to the human experience of facing the trials and limitations of life while continuing to move forward despite them.

The levitating figure is not escaping from reality. Rather, it embodies a moment in which, despite being bound by difficulties and constraints symbolized by gravity, I create the appearance of having become free for just an instant through my own physical effort.

Even while bound by realities as heavy as gravity, I invite you to witness the human figure that still reaches upward toward the sky.
